| At
Brettells our basic
staircases are produced with solid pine treads, risers and
strings. The same format can be reproduced in Oak, Sapele
or Ash. If you have a particular requirement there are many
commercial hard and softwoods to choose from. Look at
"Timbers"
for these examples. If price is of paramount
importance we will construct your staircase with MDF treads,
plywood risers and softwood strings.
Straight flights are obviously the most cost effective
being the quickest to produce and assemble. Cut strings
are pleasing to the eye and surprisingly good value, but
for the more adventurous among you a geometrical staircase
with curved strings and wreathed handrail can be absolutely
stunning.
The right hand sequence of pictures is of two European oak
staircases that were manufactured and installed in Wanstead,
East London. It features 45mm reeded oak spindles, 90mm
oak reeeded round top newels with solid oak strings, treads
and risers. The handrail is fully moulded with bun caps
and a monkey tail. The project is complimented by a burgundy
stair carpet with stainless steel stair rods.
